it’s supposed to bring a new feature that’s significantly closer to macOS
If there’s one thing Apple fans have long faulted the iPad for, it’s its limitations because of its operating system. While Apple has been trying to make iPadOS as close to PC systems as possible in recent years (albeit, of course, while retaining its basic mobile principles and touch controls), it still hasn’t quite succeeded, and its tablets, unfortunately, continue to lag somewhat behind compared to Macs. However, the iPadOS 16 should hopefully bring a new feature that brings them solidly closer to the Macs.
A reliable leaker on Twitter, Majin Bu, informed the world a couple of hours ago that Apple is currently working on support for floating app windows, which will work in a simplified way that when you connect a mouse and keyboard, the apps displayed in the full-screen format will “shrink” into smaller windows that can be moved around the iPad’s desktop and easier to navigate between them using the peripherals, and therefore easier to work with via Universal Control. This means that apps can interact with de facto like their desktop versions on the desktop. However, this is a feature that will be very performance-intensive, so it will probably be exclusive to iPads equipped with Apple M1 chipsets.
