The Captain’s Log Star Date is January 3, 2024. That’s how today’s article could have started if it was on one of my favourite shows, but this is about Startrek. Impossible as it may seem, I will soon be 32 years old, and Startrek is simply my heart throb. Today would write itself within the captain’s log. I started the day with a great breakfast from my dear half, followed by packing the bag that came with my “Friend of Medium” before the end of the year and heading towards the parcel shop to pick up the laptop I ordered. Today, I’ll tease you a bit, and you’ll find out what laptop it was in the end, but first, I’ll write about my ordeal.

Packaging

When I brought the laptop home, I promptly unpacked it from the box. A pleasant surprise was that the ugly outside box hid a second nice box inside, which housed the laptop. After unpacking it, I found a charger with a USB-C connector and a manual still in the package. As for how big the box was, there was practically nothing in it, but the main thing is that my laptop arrived safely.

First boot

Having been spoiled by Apple for years, I welcomed the opportunity to get a Windows laptop for the project as a positive change. After all, I love technology and hardware used to be and still is my secret passion. I often encounter HW still under NDA and, therefore, officially non-existent on projects. I’m not going to lie to you; I am very spoiled regarding hardware because of this, and when I buy or choose a machine for work, it has to meet my criteria. How was the new machine first launched?

When you get a new MacBook and open the lid, the system starts up, and everything is ready. I love this wow effect; it makes your eyes light up, and you enjoy this little detail. The machine I bought had a dead battery, unfortunately for me, because I opened the machine and found nothing. I pressed the power button and nothing; at that point, I was utterly stumped and afraid I had bought a machine that didn’t work.

I hurriedly exited the table to find the charger in the box. After restring and connecting the two parts, I finally turned the machine on after a few seconds.
